How we source this site and how we comply
What we publish, where it comes from, and the rules we follow.
What is NewberrySCPlumbing.com?
An information site and local directory for homeowners dealing with leaks, burst and frozen pipes, sewer backups, floods and other water damage in Newberry County and the Midlands, South Carolina. It is published by HERE City, the company behind the HERE City network of local news sites. It is not a plumbing contractor, water mitigation company, insurance company, agent, adjuster or law firm. We do not repair plumbing, sell plumbing services or sell insurance.
Where does the weather data come from?
- Alerts and forecasts: the National Weather Service public API (api.weather.gov), matched to the counties this site covers. The weather center checks for new alerts every 15 minutes and the page refreshes itself. Flood, freeze, winter and tropical alerts are shown first; other alerts are listed below them.
- Pipe-freeze risk: computed by this site from the NWS hourly forecast for Newberry: the coldest hour, hours at or below 32°F, 28°F and 20°F, the longest stretch below freezing and any day that never gets above freezing. The 20°F threshold comes from University of Illinois research summarized by IBHS; 28°F is the NWS hard-freeze level.
- Nightly lows: the forecast low temperatures in the NWS 7-day forecast for Newberry. Nights at or below 32°F are flagged.
- Freeze history: daily temperatures from NOAA's cooperative weather station in Newberry (USC00386209), retrieved from NOAA's Applied Climate Information System (ACIS). That station reads its thermometer once a day, so a day's reported high can belong to the previous afternoon.
- Alert history: National Weather Service watch, warning and advisory products for the counties and forecast zones this site covers, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet archive at Iowa State University, since January 2025.
- We never estimate, model or invent weather data. If a source is down, the page says when it last updated.
Where does the insurance and legal information come from?
From the South Carolina Department of Insurance, the South Carolina Residential Builders Commission (SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation), state law (S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 59), FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program, the U.S. EPA, the National Weather Service, Ready.gov, the American Red Cross, the FTC and the CFPB. Each guide lists its sources and the date it was last reviewed (October 30, 2026). Policies vary, so every guide tells you to check your own policy and ask your insurer. We do not publish price ranges for plumbing work, because they vary by company and job; our emergency call guide explains what drives a price instead.
How are directory listings compiled?
- Unclaimed listings show five fields only: name, address, phone, website and area served, copied from the business's own website. We do not guess or buy contact details.
- A listing is marked “claimed” only after the business confirms its details with us by phone or from a business email address.
- Order is alphabetical. Enhanced listings and sponsors are labeled. We do not rate or endorse plumbers.
- We do not publish a business's claim that it will take over or negotiate a homeowner's insurance claim.
- To correct or remove a listing, email [email protected].
Images
We use only our own graphics, public-domain images from U.S. government agencies, or images under a free Creative Commons license from Wikimedia Commons, each credited where it appears and listed on our photo credits page.
How does the site make money?
Plumbing and water-damage businesses can pay for an enhanced listing, a labeled sponsor banner or a labeled sponsored article. Payment does not change our guides, the weather data or the order of unclaimed listings. Homeowners never pay. With a homeowner's consent, a help request may be passed to plumbers in the directory.
News
We cover major local weather events, water-system notices such as boil-water advisories, insurance rulings and official announcements only, each dated and sourced. HERE City news sites may republish these with a link back here.
